North Campus, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, June 1st 2018: HAO Weimin, Dean of the Long Hua Academy (Sri Lanka), and his delegation visited GDUFS. JIAO Fangtai, Vice President of GDUFS, received the guests in the VIP Hall of the Administration Building where the two sides discussed the cooperation between the two universities.
Talks between the two sides
JIAO Fangtai expressed that GDUFS is a typically-internationalized university, which has established in total 27 foreign language degrees so far. As the university which has the largest number of foreign language programmes in southern China, GDUFS is looking forward to the cooperation with the Long Hua Academy. He hoped that the communication between the two sides can be strengthened, to further discuss the feasibility of the establishment of both the Sri Lanka research institute and the teaching spot of Singhalese.
HAO Weimin mentioned that with the increasing exchanges between China and Sri Lanka, there is a shortage of Chinese and Singhalese bilinguals. The establishment of the Long Hua Academy is aimed at extending Chinese language and propagating Chinese culture. As a well-known academy of languages and cultures in Sri Lanka, the Long Hua Academy hoped to participate in the communication between China and Sri Lanka, and to co-establish both the Sri Lanka research institute and the teaching spot of Singhalese. The Long Hua Academy can support GDUFS with the supply of teachers, and can help get in touch with universities in Sri Lanka for cooperation.
The relevant responsible persons of both the International Cooperation and Exchange Office and the Faculty of Asian Languages and Cultures also attended the meeting.
